Fritz lovingly employs wood to produce beautiful and incredibly unique handcrafted eyewear. Born and raised on Rugen Island in the Baltic Sea, Fritz was originally a wooden yacht builder and each frame he has designed is descended out of this tradition. In homage to seafaring, most of his frames are named after the yacht’s “engines”; the winds that blow around our globe.  At Gates Eyewear many of our customers appreciate the uniqueness of these frames and the sensory quality of wood grain.

Fritz says he finds making glasses appealing on many levels. A craftsman and inventor as well as entrepreneur and designer, he enjoys the ever-evolving process, always discovering new insights into his self-made craft.  “Creating glasses enriches my life with beauty and meaning, two of life’s essential rewards.”
