Retinal Camera

Utilising the latest technology from Japanese optical equipment maker Topcon coupled with a 6.1 megapixel Nikon D70 digital camera body we now have the ability to take high definition photos of the back of the eye.   These photos are instantly available for us to view. They provide an invaluable accurate record of the health of the retina. Which means we can compare photos when you come in for your regular comprehensive eyetests and see if any changes have occured.

Certain eye diseases cause visible changes on the retina. The disease diabetes can subtly affect the very fine blood vessels in the retina and this can lead to diabetic retinopathy. With a digital photo we can monitor any changes that may be occuring. Glaucoma can affect the eye's optic nerve head and changes here can be seen and more easily documented with a digital photo.

The new Zeiss Matrix visual field analyzer lets us check for subtle changes that can affect the field of vision - these are often associated with the eye disease glaucoma. With this automated machine we can monitor changes in people's visual fields who have progressive glaucoma and we can even detect some neurological conditions that affect the eyes and vision. This is a vital piece of equipment for checking the health of your eyes.

Working alongside your health care professional we can email them copies of what we have found.
